Here is a little piece of advice about how to use the time you are at your teacher’s more effectively. [Translator’s note: This article may make more sense in a Japanese setting, where it is more common for many students to be present while a lesson is being given to a single student. These students then watch (or don’t) each lesson as they wait for their own turn.〕
It is human nature to want to be at your teacher’s when there are few other students around. That way, you won’t have to wait as long for your own lesson, and you won’t have people waiting for your own to finish, so you can take your time. Some teachers even keep strict time limits when there are other students waiting.
Many students will go home once their own lesson ends, but in doing so they perform a great disservice to themselves. First,
listening to someone else’s lesson allows you to observe in a more detached and rational manner than during your own. This will aid in understanding things that you are having trouble with. Second, most people tend to make the same kinds of mistakes, so watching the lessons of others is very likely to help your own practice directly.
Finally, there is an even greater benefit to be had in merely being exposed to your teacher’s sound for a longer period of time. A certain composer once said, “There is much to be gained…from spending time in the presence of someone active in your discipline, either through just spending time with them, helping them with work, or traveling with them.”
The longer you spend time in the presence of someone better than you, the longer are exposed to their live sound, the quicker you will reach their level.
Thus, instead of hurrying home from your teacher’s, try to spend as much time there as possible. 作者: 小莊 時間: 2013-8-12 21:55 標題: 回復 1# 的帖子
